Item description: * Important Victorian era fashionable insect brooch in the form of a large dragonfly fully paved and encrusted with diamonds and rubies. The brooch has a total of 62 old brilliant cut diamonds of superb quality and sparkle with a total estimated weight of about 6 carats all set in yellow gold and silver. On each wing of the dragonfly, as well as on torso there are 5 large natural Mogok Burma ruby precious stones of exceptional intense pigeon blood color and perfect clarity. There are also two smaller cabochon red ruby stones set as eyes of the insect. The total ruby estimated weight is about 2.4 carats. The dragonfly brooch measures 54mm long from head to tip of tail and is 48mm wide across wings – all this with an approximate net weight of 13 grams. This circa 1880 brooch is in a superb absolutely intact condition and comes into a fitted Victorian era case. Scarce and important antique jewelry / jewellery collector piece crafted by an European jeweler and master goldsmith and one of the rare Victorian era diamond and ruby brooches and jewels.
