Item description: * See scan - perfect condition. This is a nice and extremely rare type 1st issue of the France / Germany Alsace region, town of Strasbourg mint gold ducat. The piece is of the rarest type with text at reverse placed in a square frame like the Holland / Dutch knight gold ducats. Obverse of this ducat shows the town crest of Strasbourg and surrounding text GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO and reverse has the text DUCATUS REIBUB. ARGENTINENSIS / DVCATVS REIPVB ARGENTI NENSIS placed in a square frame with wreaths surrounding it. The piece is in UNC condition and weighs approximately 3.5 grams of 23+ karat gold. Exact diameter of this coin is 22.3mm and the piece is LIFETIME GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC. Ref. for this city issue undated ducat : Friedberg A237, Obv: + GLORIA + IN EXCELSIS DEO Strasbourg coat of arms with big Helmet. On both sides rising lion as a coat of arms holder. Rev:. DVCATVS REIPVB: Written board ARGENTI NENSIS on richly decorated cartouche. This particular issue is extremely rare compared to other issues with different design of reverse. Scarce French / German related numismatics collector piece and one of the rare France Strasbourg gold ducats and coins.
